Are
These Computer Networking Problems Causing You To "Pull Your Hair Out?"
Dear friend,
Technology is in a constant
state of change. We've got so many new devices to make our lives better
that the challenge comes in trying to keep up with what can help us. In
the wireless computer networking world we have 802.11a,
802.11b,
802.11g, Wireless -N just to name a few. These are not foreign
computer networking issues. We have these issues right here in Kansas
City.
The wireless router
setup was supposed be a "one button click" step but the "step" turned
into a painful ordeal. One computer connects to the Internet but the other one
doesn't. Printer sharing won't work at all. You are connected to a
network but the network name is not what the instructions says it should be.
How do I secure my connection so outsiders can't see into my network?
What's WEP? What's WPA? I should be able to remote desktop connect to my
other computer but the connection consistently fails.
What You Need is Expert Advice
To Pinpoint & Resolve Your Problems
You need a step-by-step, simple
approach to configuring and troubleshooting your computer networking that
works. You need computer networking that does the following:
-
Provides multiple computers with Internet access from one Internet connection.
-
Shares printers and other devices with all of the computer within the network.
-
If wireless, secures each connection so that intruders can't do a 'drive by'
connection to your network and steal valuable information and resources from
you.
-
Open the necessary doorways to give you the remote desktop access you require.

Which of These Computer
Networking
Services Can You Use To Solve Your Problems?
-
Computer Networking (1-3 computers) - Most
networking companies give you 1-2 computers as your basic package; but, I know
that today's home and home-based business environments have at least 3
computers. One for the husband, one for the wife, and one for the kids. I
add the 3rd computer into the package for FREE because I understand that the
home is changing and
at least 3 computers keeps everybody working with a computer and nobody waiting for a computer.
-
Computer Networking (4-10 computers)
-
This is the workhorse of the small office business. In a small office,
I usually see at least one computer for the owner, sales rep,
secretary and the office manager. That's at 4 computers;however, I
want the larger small offices to know I haven't forgotten you.
Moreover, as your 4 person small office grows, you get greater value because the cost of each computer in your network costs less to connect.
-
File and Printer Sharing-
Here is one of the primary reasons you wanted to network your
computers. You have one printer and 3 computers; however, you
have a license for Office on one computer, Adobe on another computer
and Data Calendar on the third computer. With printer sharing,
the problem is solved. You share the printer on the directly connected
machine and now you have access to print to your single printer
conveniently from the other computers as if the printer was directly
connected to them. With file sharing,
you can now make directories on one computer visible and accessible to
the other computers allowing you to move files between computers
quickly and easily. Moving a file can be done with a "simple cut and
paste."
-
Wireless Security
- Keeping unwanted visitors off of your network is the whole purpose
for this service. You have critical information on your computer
that you want to keep private. You don't want free-loaders using your
network for access to the Internet either. You paid for your Internet
access and your wireless network for your pleasure and wireless
security supports this through the comfort in knowing that no one can
just "barge" into your private computer networking space.
-
Remote Desktop - This service is for use with Windows 2000 Server, Window XP Professional and Windows XP home (Window XP home
can only be the client computer). You can make a connection to any of
your other computers and see the desktop of the remote computer just as
if you were sitting at the remote computer physically. You will be able
to use any program on that machine. If you only have one copy of
Microsoft Office on machine A but you are sitting at machine B, you can
make a remote desktop connection to the remote machine A and use it
from machine B. This allows you to save money on software licensing
cost and it makes it a very comfortable and productive
proposition to be able to access the full resource of multiple
computers from one computer without ever getting up. As the name
"remote desktop" conveys the truth that you will be able to access the
desktop of multiple remote computers from one computer.
Most of the my real "know-how" comes from years of cumulative experiences that
results in my deep understanding of computer networking.
I have been a technologist,
engineer and administrator of various computer systems since 1990. I have
worked for United Health, Sam's Club, IBM-Informix, AT&T-SBC-Southwestern
Bell, GE, Sprint, and Litton to name a few.
This broad range of experience has
provided me with numerous "in the trenches" computer networking
skirmishes to build an arsenal of tools and techniques to diagnose and fix
simple and complex computer network issues.
Look what Dorothy Witherspoon from
the Department of Labor had to say about my computer network implementation at
Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri:
This letter is to document the outstanding contributions of Mr. Olan Butler in
providing assistance to the Women's Bureau in implementing the Girls
E-Mentoring in Science Engineering and Technology (GEMSET) project with the Mt.
Vernon Baptist Church Youth Department in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Butler utilized his technology expertise in building a computer network
whereby the girls involved in the E-Mentoring project could access/utilize
computers at the Church's learning center to interact with mentors, via email,
from all across the country. He set up the computers at the learning center,
arranged the communications protocol, assigned passwords, set up the accounts
and installed the switching equipment. In addition, he served as the on-site
technical advisor and was the expert on call for computer repairs and problem
solving. I can say unequivocally that because of Mr. Butler's dedication and
service, the project was successfully launched and the computer learning center
is still being well-utilized.
I was pleased to be in attendance at the church on October 19, 2003 when they
gave special thanks to Mr. Butler for his outstanding support of the GEMSET
project. His knowledge of computers was integral to the success of the project
and we cannot thank him enough.
Please contact me at 816-426-6108 if I can provide any additional information
as further testament to the outstanding performance of Mr. Butler.
